Ava Zhan, the founder of Earthwise Beauty, never ceases to amaze me. She’s a brilliant formulator, an aromatherapy expert, a flower essence therapist, and an herbal tea maker. I even found out recently that she used to be in book publishing and published award-winning books in New York City! Is there anything this woman can’t do? Lol. I had the pleasure of working with Ava (and her team — hi Joslin, et al.!) this past year, and I have to say, Ava is one of the most sweetest, honest, and genuine people that I’ve ever met! It still boggles my mind at the fact that she’s mostly self-taught. She is so knowledgeable and well-versed when it comes to ingredients and her creativity and expertise shines through in her formulations.
Can you believe Valentine’s Day is just right around the corner? I know, me neither! But don’t fret — me and my dear friend Tricia (of Ni Hao New York fame) have you covered! I’m excited to be collaborating with her to give you a very special Eco Chic Valentine’s Day Gift Guide for Men. Tricia is the epitome of “eco chic” and is one of the most thoughtful and loving people I know. She has impeccable taste when it comes to all things conscious and sustainable and always finds the best products! I hope you enjoy the gift guide we’ve curated for you and promise there’ll be something for even the most hard-to-please person in your life on the list (and everything is under $70!).
2017 was definitely the year of discovery! I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to try many new and impressive products this past year. Many were from new or new-to-me brands, while others were from my trusty tried-and-true brands. I spent many days and nights pondering (I’m not even exaggerating, lol) what my absolute favorite (or “best”) products were — and it was definitely not easy! I found that for some categories it was very difficult to decide on just one ‘star’ product. There were so many great brands / products that I tried, and while I wish I could feature all of them, that would defeat the purpose of this list. I decided to focus mostly on skincare and on some body products so this list wouldn’t get too unwieldy. (Although, I would consider creating a “best of” list for makeup if it garners enough interest.) Some of the products that you see may be repeats from the other two lists — because, what can I say, I’m a creature of habit and I love my tried-and-true brands! Anyway, I hope you enjoy! All prices listed are in U.S. Dollars.
Happy New Year, everyone! Whether you spent New Year’s Eve out on the town celebrating with friends, or stayed in with loved ones while noshing on sushi (like me and my hubs), I have you have / had a fantastic and joy-filled New Year! I don’t know about you, but I’m so ready for 2018. 2017 was an eventful, albeit challenging year, so I am ready for a fresh start — to begin anew. I haven’t made any new year’s resolutions (and don’t plan to, as I don’t believe they really work), but my goal for 2018 is to work on myself — to be the best version of myself that I can be and continue to be / do good in the world. Plus, I want to work towards a more minimalistic household. (Hmm, those sound like resolutions, don’t they? Oh well — #sorrynotsorry!) I’m interested in doing The Minimalists’ 30-Day Minimalism Game. Anybody want to do it with me?
2017 has been such an incredible year for green beauty. So many great new brands emerged and there has been no shortage of new product launches. Amazingly, some of these products even rival and perform better than their conventional counterparts! Green beauty has grown increasingly popular this past year with the help of influencers (via Instagram or through celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow or Olivia Wilde) and is no longer considered small and niche. It’s become so popular (and lucrative, I might add) that big consumer goods conglomerates want in on the action, too.
African Botanics has quickly become one of my favorite green beauty brands. You know how people say that ‘this product’ or ‘that product’ would be one of their “desert island” products? I feel like it would be too difficult to choose just a few products, so I would choose some “desert island” brands instead — you know, because I’m extra (or is it, “basic”? I can’t keep up, lol). Anyway, I could easily say that African Botanics would be one of my “desert island” brands.
AveSeena is a new luxury green beauty brand that offers immune-conscious skincare products that are backed by science. It was founded by Dr. Ebru Karpuzoglu, an Immunologist, who spent twenty years studying the effects of estrogenic and endocrine disrupting ingredients on the immune system. AveSeena strives to provide innovative, 100% naturally-derived skincare that focuses on the well being of the skin as it is the first line of immune defense.
Hi all! After a three month hiatus, I’m finally back to blogging! I figured that I owed you all an update as to why I’ve been absent from my blog. It was definitely never my intention to be away for so long, but life kind of took over and sometimes you just have to go along for the ride. (That’s a horrible excuse, I know, but in this case it’s the truth!) I have been posting a bit on Instagram, but haven’t gotten a chance to post on my blog until now.
Is #avadoesitagain a thing? Because if it’s not, it definitely needs to be. If you’ve been following me on Instagram, then you probably know that I’m a huge fan of Earthwise Beauty. Ava Zhan, the owner / founder / formulator behind Earthwise Beauty, creates the most one-of-a-kind skincare products, each uniquely special in their own right.
