Product Review: African Botanics Resurrection Cell Recovery Serum

Is there anything African Botanics can’t do? I swear, every product they create is like magic! I’ve been using their products for a few years now and I can honestly say that African Botanics is one of my all-time favorite top brands. Their products are luxurious, technologically-advanced, and most importantly, effective — it’s like my perfect green beauty trifecta!

I’ve been using the African Botanics Resurrection Cell Recovery Serum for the past couple of years so I thought I would share my experience with it and why I consider it one of my “holy grail” serums! But first, some background information on the Serum.

The Resurrection Cell Recovery Serum gets its name from the African Desert Resurrection Plant. This moss-like plant can literally survive extreme dehydration, even over months or years! The Resurrection Plant spends most of its life looking like a ball of dried up twigs — or a tumbleweed — if you will, and is practically “dead.” What makes this plant so special is that within an hour of a rainfall, the plant miraculously starts to unravel, and within just a few hours, the plant if fully-revived and alive! Seriously, Google it! Isn’t nature amazing?

Using the Resurrection Plant as inspiration, African Botanics sought out to create a potent anti-aging (yes, I said anti-aging) serum with the ability to bring dull, dry skin “back to life” in a similar way. Amazingly, African Botanics was able to do this by harnessing the extraordinary plant properties of the Resurrection Plant, and by using rare, South African ingredients and botanicals. The addition of Hyaluronic Acid rounds out its formulation. Some of the key active ingredients benefits include:

  • Resurrection Plant + Hyaluronic Acid – restores moisture loss while boosting collagen to support the structure of healthy and radiant skin
  • African Aloe Ferox, Arnica, Gotu Kola, Cucumber, and Cape Chamomile extracts – extremely anti-inflammatory and calming
  • Swiss Garden Cress Lyposomes – rich in sulforaphane, a powerful antioxidant phytonutrient. These effectively inhibit melanin formation which provides brightening benefits and evens out skin tone
  • Swiss Garden Cress Liposomes + Green Sea Algae – gently exfoliates and refines, and minimizes dark spots
  • Retinol + Resveratrol + plant peptides – smooths lines and wrinkles

While the Resurrection Cell Recovery Serum works for all skin types, I feel like it would benefit mature skins the most. But, from my experience, it works fabulously for acne-prone skin, too!

The Resurrection Cell Recovery Serum is meant to be a night serum, so I only use this in my nighttime routine. Typically, after I’ve cleansed and toned, I apply one or two pumps of the Serum onto my skin. As my last step, I like to apply the African Botanics Fleurs d’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil. If I’m feeling #extra or fancy, I’ll apply the African Botanics Fleurs d’Afrique Intensive Recovery Cream on top of that.

The Serum is lightweight and has a silky, gel-like texture. It is completely translucent (clear), and has a unique, light, botanical scent — I would almost describe it like parsley or cilantro. I know that sounds weird, but I promise you the scent is very faint and will not be bothersome. It also absorbs fairly quickly and leaves no residue behind.

What I love most about the Serum is that it’s so potent and fast-acting. I kid you not, I feel like I see noticeable results overnight. Dull, lackluster, and uneven skin be gone! When I use this my skin is more hydrated, plump, smooth, and even-toned. I also feel that my skin is more elastic and stronger overall. I honestly cannot recommend the Resurrection Cell Recovery Serum enough!
